Satellite Classes

Carlson School has established satellite units in local schools. These units  benefit children by enabling them to

  • Access the wider community and culture of their mainstream peers
  • Enjoy the familiarity of their Carlson peers in the satellite class
  • Contribute to and participate in the mainstream school assemblies and whole school events
  • Access mainstream integration both academically and socially through a carefully planned and supported integration programme

Host their mainstream peers by inviting them to be part of a satellite programmes or events

  • Participate in the social aspects of the mainstream school through a buddy system set up as peer support
  • Gain confidence and independence from the best of both educational worlds.
  • Access the curriculum through Carlson teachers and therapists who have expertise in working with students with physical needs.

Our Carlson satellite class at Waikowhai Intermediate School, Richardson Rd Mt Roskill, started on Monday 21st October 2002 and our satellite at Oranga Primary School opened on the 10th May 2004.

The buildings are well situated close to the main entrances. A therapy room and purpose built kitchen, offer opportunities for learning in an optimal environment.
